I couldn't think of a more perfect book to start out the blog with. Gone, written by Michael Grant, is my latest read. This is the first novel in a currently unfinished series.
The main idea is probably something most kids dream of; What if everyone aged 15 and up disappeared?
This is a world where kids rule in the absence of adults. You can scarf down all the candy and soda you want, stay up all night and sleep till noon.
Yet, its all fun and games until 'reality' sets in.
I mean, kids are still kids and within every population of kids there are still bullies. Usually this wouldn't be a threat, but the enforcers of punishment are gone. The police? gone. The mothers and fathers who make you food? gone.
Not to mention that there is a huge unexplainable dome keeping you from the mysteries beyond Perdido beach, California. Throw in the fact that the kids are starting to develop very strange powers and animals have begun to mutate at a speed even science can't explain, and this book shoves you into the raw world of survival at its deadliest.
It begs questions of morals, values and the possibilities of survival in a world with no rules.
Can they survive?
Could you?
This book will keep you thinking long after the final page.
My final standing: Read. It.
